Our building was constructed in 1908 and originally served as a Methodist church.
The Colfax Community purchased the building in 1954 and on June 10th, 1956, a re-dedication service was held, officially renaming it as Colfax Community Church.
Sometime during the 1960's, the addition and outside basement entrance were added. This incorporated a water well and bathrooms in the basement as well as extra classroom space. Up to this point, the "Shack Out Back" was the only bathroom. The bell tower also became unsafe to ring and had to be taken down before it fell down.
The old entrance was removed, and a new entry was added to the rear, providing a nursery and library in the upper area. At this point, the ceiling was lowered, and air conditioning was added above the auditorium. Also, the gigantic old wood/coal furnace was removed, opening the basement to a larger area with more classrooms.
Both entrances are handicap friendly.
